Packaging Design
With over 25 years experience as a freelance packing designer I have built up an extensive portfolio of packaging design projects. These range from simple trade pharmaceutical packs to more complex and creative retail packing. I’m able to take a brief, often the most basic scribble, and develop an engaging, effective and technically correct concept and design. I can then take the final design through to artwork and with experience dealing with packing printers, I can make sure the final packaging project is completed smoothly and without hassle.
Packing Design Concepts
I sit down with clients and discuss their vision and expectations for their project. We work together to understand the design, the brand, the market and how the packaging needs to work. How is being used? How is it being stored and transported? What messages need to be visible when on the shelf and how do we make people want to pick it up?
3D Packaging Design Visuals
The creation of digital 3D visuals helps demonstrate the end product to the client and also provides and important tool in being able to communicate the printer.
I can also help produce physical demonstration versions which are a great way to iron out any usability issues. These can also be used for exhibitions and sales meeting to test out opinions prior to committing to an extensive print run.
Packaging design cutter guides and technical data
Being able to interpret a cutter guide or printer’s net is essential. Mentally visualising a packing design project and it’s relationship with the end user is a crucial skill for a packaging designer. From here we can work within any limitations the physical pack presents to ensure the design fits the space and is orientated correctly.
Working with the Packaging Printer
Good communication between all parties involved in the packaging design project is vital. It is important that as a packaging designer I’m able to speak to the printer in way that they understand to ensure the end product is exactly how the client envisaged it. Recognising how the packaging printer need the files set up and working to their specifications will save time.
Do you have a packaging design project? With my extensive skills in all areas of design I understand the brand and the relationship between customer and product. I’m able to bring these extra skills into my packaging design work giving my clients a design which not only looks great, but also adds something extra to make you stand out from the crowd.
