Brand strategy
As part of a team working on a brand strategy, I offer creative solutions to help design and deliver an effective visual brand. These will often be fluid conversations as we explore what the brand is, and what it wants to achieve. With a creative visual approach, I will help bring ideas to life enabling everyone to fully understand the brand during development. This is done by explaining the design process and the rationale behind some of the decisions. This will be the hierarchy of information, the positive design choices and even working with the team to produce a set of visuals to test ideas.
Using a freelance designer helps bring a fresh perspective to the discussion. We find this valuable when trying to determine what is important to the business and examining how the brand has evolved over time. Asking questions will discover what historical brand elements are hindering progress and which have significant importance to customers. I help develop the new brand strategy and design the brand elements.
A freelance designer can also explain the brand strategy decisions made by competitors. This can be critical to the success as we discover what works across the sector and what needs to avoided.
For example, the above Hector Fox project was a result of working with TWP Designs. Their core business was firmly positioned in refurbishments for the hotel sector. As result, they were missing out on lucrative high end design work a they were seen as ‘fixers’ not ‘designers’. Rather than reinvent the main brand and risk alienating their main customers, we invented a new design studio which was to work alongside TWP. We researched the name and developed their own identity and brand. This allowed us to establish Hector Fox and an independent brand strategy to target new business. The above project for a Suffolk coffee shop demonstrates how working with the business can develop a brand, Needing a new identity for their cafe, we worked on developing an identity that allowed them to be as flexible as possible and offer more that just coffee and cake.
