Great leaflet design will make the first impression count and allow your message to stand out from the crowd.

Keeping the message on brand

Often thought of as disposable in design, leaflets need a designer who understands the importance of the main visual brand. It can often be the case the offer or service will take priority and the detriment of the brand. Simple qualified design will make sure the message is communicated in balance with the brand values and ensure all the hard work put into how the brand is received is not gone to waste.

What makes a good leaflet design?

There are some golden rules with regards good leaflet design. Here are a few we need to consider:

Engaging design. The design should immediately capture the attention of the reader. This is through a well designed combination of layout, typography and imagery. The cover should adhere to a considered plan with regards information hierarchy. The main focal point should inform the reader of the leaflets purpose and should be supported by additional information and images. It should not have a confusing amount of information all vying for attention.

The right amount of detail. This can be true of too much information as much as too little. Leaflets should be a snap shot of important information explaining the relevant points quickly and succinctly. By their very nature, leaflets are smaller compared to brochures or reports, so we should not try to cram them with too much material. With too little detail, we could run the risk of not communicating the product or service effectively.

Brand. All the information should be presented within the existing brand identity. The visual identity should be flexible enough that the purpose of the leaflet is clear.

Call to action. What do you want the reader to do once they have read the leaflet? Are you sending the reader to a more detailed page on the website or expecting them to make contact via another method? Finishing the leaflet with a clear call to action will dramatically increase the likelihood of a customer giving you a call or sending an email.
