The design and production of an annual report project and vision document for a nationally important visitor attraction and conservation champion.
ZSEA – The Zoological Society of East Anglia are a conservation organisation committed to the preservation of many endangered spectacular species, including rhino, lions, cheetah as well as a huge amount of less known, but equally important species such as the native crayfish and turtle dove.
ZSEA run two of the region’s leading visitor attractions, Banham Zoo and Africa Alive. Here they are part of international breeding programmes and provide a valuable insight into the plight of the worlds most fragile ecosystems.
In order to communicate their status, challenges and successes to the ZSEA trustees and wider public, they produced an annual report project and vision document. This highlighted where the business was at the time, especially important having only just survived the Covid crisis, and also where the organisation was heading, in the context of the massive global challenges and new legislation due to impact how a zoo should operate in the future.
Annual Report Project
The document had to take a lot of very dry and complex figures and present them in such a way that they were easily understood. The use of colour and straight forward typography allowed the summary of the financial status to be simple and structured in away to make comparisons easy to digest.
As well as acting as an annual report, the document was also to be used as a vision document setting out how ZSEA intended to meet the challenges of how a zoo could help global conservation efforts, customer engagement and work towards a sustainable future.
Using photographs from the magnificent animals from Banham Zoo and Africa Alive really helped give these creatures a voice and help remind the reader excatlly what was at stake and why ZSEA are so important.
